Chabad Course to Present Jewish Wisdom on Top Election Issues

In the midst of one of the most contentious election campaigns in recent memory, Chabad of West Orange is set to roll out a new course that sheds profound Jewish light on top election issues. The course is entitled “Gun Control and Immigration: A Comparative Exploration of Talmudic and American Law,” and presents Jewish wisdom on the hottest issues.

“There are issues that are debated literally every day, on every media platform,” says Rabbi Mendy Kasowitz, director of Chabad of West Orange and course facilitator. “We’re talking about gun control, immigration, income inequality, the influence of wealth on politics and government and more. These issues dominate traditional media, social media and our personal conversations.”

While the opinions of many are influenced by party affiliation, this can confuse the true nuance of the issues. The goal of the series is to give participants the opportunity to take a fresh and open look at these critical issues, through a uniquely Jewish lens.

“This course is not about right, left or center,” says Rabbi Kasowitz. “We’re not playing politics. The course is sharply focused on presenting layers of Jewish wisdom on major ballot issues. Participants will learn directly from brilliant, time-tested Jewish sources and formulate their own opinions.”

This course also offers a unique opportunity to lawyers to receive CLE credits.

“Gun Control and Immigration: A Comparative Exploration of Talmudic and American Law” will take place on Monday, August 29, at 6:30 p.m. at Chabad of West Orange, 401 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ 07052. The cost for the course is $36 and includes dinner. Addition charge for CLE credits. To learn about this course or to register, please call 973-325-6311 or visit www.chabadwestorange.com.

Like all CWO programs, “Gun Control and Immigration: A Comparative Exploration of Talmudic and American Law” is designed to appeal to people at all levels of Jewish knowledge, including those without any prior experience or background in Jewish learning. All CWO courses are open to the public, and attendees need not be affiliated with a particular synagogue, temple or other house of worship.

Chabad of West Orange takes pride in offering innovative, inclusive Jewish educational programs for Jews from all walks of life, all backgrounds, all lifestyles and all ages. People from a diverse spectrum of Jewish life find the CWO to be a warm and welcoming community in which to experience the richness of their heritage.

Chabad of West Orange is under the auspices of Lubavitch Center of Essex County, an affiliate of the Rabbinical College of America.
