Chabad of Hackensack to Host Cambodia’s First-Ever Rabbi

(Courtesy of Chabad of Hackensack) Chabad of Hackensack is thrilled to announce an event featuring a unique guest speaker, Rabbi Bentzion Butman, the first rabbi ever to reside in Cambodia. The program will take place at 6:45 p.m. at Chabad of Hackensack on June 20.

Fourteen years ago, Rabbi Butman and his wife Mashi made the unprecedented decision to uproot their comfortable life in Brooklyn and establish a new home in the unlikely setting of Cambodia. Since then, they have faced and overcome innumerable challenges, fostering a vibrant and flourishing Jewish community.

Rabbi Mendy Kaminker, the event’s host and leader of Chabad of Hackensack, said “Jewish life in Cambodia is extraordinary, and it’s filled with lessons for us all. From finding ways to keep kosher when there’s no kosher grocery for thousands of miles, to building a community out of what initially seemed like a crazy idea — Rabbi Butman’s journey is remarkable.”

This event will provide an opportunity to learn about the rabbi’s inspiring efforts to maintain Jewish traditions and values amid challenging circumstances that reflect the teachings of the Rebbe.

The public is invited to join in for this special event in honor of the Rebbe’s yahrzeit. It promises to be a fascinating exploration of Jewish life in Cambodia and an inspiring tribute to the transformative power of faith and community.

This lecture is in honor of the Rebbe’s yahrzeit, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who established Chabad Houses all across the globe. There is a suggested donation of $18. To RSVP, visit www.chabadhackensack.com/Cambodia or call (201) 503-3770.
