Challah Bake and a Dose of Torah

(Courtesy of YIFL) On Sunday evening, January 5, the Blumenthal family hosted an event at the Young Israel of Fair Lawn in commemoration of the 17th yahrtzeit of Stephanie Shatkin, mother of Leah Blumenthal. Approximately 30 women took part in a challah bake in which each woman made her own batch of dough. As the dough rose, several more women joined to hear Rabbi Joseph Oratz, principal of Bruriah High School, give a shiur entitled: “Is Esther relevant in 2020?” For many in the crowd, it was a time to reminisce, as about half the room comprised proud Bruriah alumni. Following the shiur, the women went around the room and one by one said the bracha on separating the challah while everyone else answered “amen,” all to commemorate the neshama of Stephanie Shatkin.
