Bergenfield—The Bergen County Chapter of the Jewish Women’s Renaissance Project (JWRP) will hold its Third Annual Dessert Reception Fundraiser on Wednesday, February 12th at Congregation Rinat Yisrael in Bergenfield, New Jersey. Chava Willig Levy, author, A Life Not with Standing, was the guest speaker.
The Jewish Women’s Renaissance Project (JWRP) was established in 2008 to empower Jewish women to change the world. The goal is to create a Jewish women’s movement that inspires a renaissance of positive Jewish values. JWRP is a highly-subsidized mission to Israel offering mothers with little formal Jewish educational background a nine-day, life-transforming, informative and inspiring experience. The women return home as a cohesive group and share their experience with family and community. To date, the JWRP has brought 3,665 women from 63 cities and 17 countries on missions to Israel. Post-trip research reveals that the JWRP participants feel: a deeper connection to Israel, a better understanding of Judaism, a deepened Jewish identity, a desire to learn more, and increased Jewish observance. In 2014 the JWRP will be partnering with the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and will double their number to 2000 women being brought to Israel.
This year will be the fourth year of participation for the Bergen group. In order to accommodate the many applications being received, this year Bergen County JWRP will be running two trips; in June and in December. This event, in partnership with the Beth Abraham Kiruv Committee and JInspire was held to raise the funds needed to subsidize the trip for the local women and to offer scholarships for those who otherwise could not afford to travel to Israel.
