On Wednesday, January 17, the Shefa School’s middle school came together for Chesed Day. The Shefa School has a middle-school-wide Chesed Day every six weeks. Students enthusiastically volunteered at organizations throughout Manhattan. Students collaborated with Encore Community Services and Union Settlement to deliver hot meals to participants in Midtown and on the Upper East Side. Other students helped with preparing and packing food at Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen.
Another group of students returned to the Brotherhood Synagogue Early Childhood Program where they partnered with the preschoolers to help craft bracelets and decorate cards to send to families in Israel. Other students dedicated their time at Best Friends Animal Society, where they lovingly cleaned animal play areas and spent quality time with the pets. A final group of eighth-graders took on the responsibility of preparing bagels at the Shefa School, which were then distributed to those without a home throughout the school’s neighborhood.
