(Courtesy of CMEK) The CMEK sixth grade Englewood girls (Moriah and Yavneh) and their families (70 people) enjoyed an experience of a lifetime.
CMEK is a proud partner of the Jr. Knicks of the NBA. The team, who was one of a record 12 teams to win a Fall Travel Club league championship, were VIP guests on Tuesday, November 28, at Madison Square Garden. They attended a private shoot-around where they were up close and personal with Knicks players: Jalen Brunson, RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and others. Afterwards, they went into the players’ tunnel to receive the official Jr. Knicks uniforms. Then, the girls played a split squad game in front of thousands of fans who were cheering loudly throughout. The Garden fans couldn’t believe the level of play; every player made a basket in the eight minute game.
Finally, players and families enjoyed a convincing Knicks victory over the Charlotte Hornets. With the win, the Knicks advanced to the quarterfinal of the inaugural in-season tournament.
The experience was made possible by Head Coach Chad Mekles, founder and director of CMEK Basketball. For more information on the program, which is open to girls and boys grades pre-k- high school, please email [email protected] or call 201.927.3027.
