Coach Gila Presents to Ma’ayanot Biology Class

As a culmination to Mrs. Taubes’ ninth grade biology class finishing their unit on the digestive system, where students learned about nutrition and why it is important to their body, they invited Coach Gila, Ma’ayanot’s nutrition and cooking teacher to speak to the class. This was a great opportunity for students to learn the practical aspects of nutrition and create a healthy lifestyle.

Coach Gila taught the students key components of balanced nutrition, and how to create a balanced plate with all the food groups. “All foods fit in a healthy lifestyle and balance is key,” said Coach Gila.

Coach Gila encouraged the student to create habits that support a healthy lifestyle. She spoke about sleep, hydration, movement and stress management and explained the importance of adding in these habits slowly so they are sustainable. Coach Gila concluded by saying that learning how to cook simple and healthy dishes is a great skill and it’s a wonderful feeling of accomplishment to know you can nourish yourself.
