‘Coach Gila’ to Run Nutrition Class for Single Mothers

Beginning on Monday, January 4, the Jewish Link’s “Coach Gila” Guzman will be facilitating an interactive nutrition workshop geared toward single mothers. The class will meet on the first Monday of every month from 8 to 9:15 p.m. at the Chabad of Teaneck. The class will focus on topics such as: Women’s Health; Eating for Energy; Your Self-Care Routine; Curb your Sugar Cravings; Ideas for Better Sleep; Healthy Dinner Ideas; Weigh Less, Live More and others.

“Single mothers, no matter how much support they have, devote all their energy to their children. I want to teach women that it is possible to be healthy while juggling children, jobs and a busy lifestyle. There are no excuses, but we must be realistic in our goals,” Guzman told the Jewish Link. The group is intended to be a “safe space for women to share and ask questions,” she added.

Guzman will focus on identifying what keeps people from reaching their goals and how best to change those habits, placing emphasis on the mind-body connection. She will teach her “crowding out” philosophy, meaning that healthier choices are introduced slowly, gradually “crowding out” the less-healthy options. It is Guzman’s hope that her lessons will create a ripple effect, affecting not just the women but their children as well.

“It’s about helping busy families be healthy and reach their goals,” she commented. “If food isn’t the problem, food isn’t the solution.”

“I am so happy to be able to do this for this particular population,” Guzman continued. “They are sometimes underserved in the community and are in need of additional support.”

For more information or to register for the class, visit Guzman’s website at www.mainassethealth.com or email her at [email protected].
