Ma’ayanot Packs the House at Scholarship Fund Dinner

(Courtesy of Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School) Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School’s annual scholarship fund dinner was a warm and welcoming event attended by more than 400 people on Saturday evening, March 2, at Congregation Keter Torah. This year’s Keter Shem Tov Award was presented to Hon. Justin Brasch and Juli Smith Brasch of White Plains. Dr. Robert and Ofra Wind of Teaneck were presented with the Amudei Ma’ayanot Award. Ma’ayanot honored Tamar Appel, the school’s associate principal, with the Faculty Recognition Award. The dinner’s theme, “Dream Bigger,” highlighted students’ varied accomplishments supported by their distinguished faculty, as well as the current campaign to expand the school in order to maximize the educational opportunities for its students.

Daniel Altman, president of Ma’ayanot, thanked the honorees and all who contributed toward the scholarship fund, which allocates $1.9 million in scholarships each year to ensure that every student can receive a yeshiva high school education. Ma’ayanot’s principal, Rivka Kahan, gave a dvar Torah connecting the Torah’s accounts of the building of the Mishkan and the creation of the world. She suggested that these connections teach us that just as Hashem created a home for humanity in this world, we are meant to create a home for Hashem through our own creativity and commitment to the ideals of the Torah. Kahan also presented a gift to Leah Herzog, a veteran teacher of Tanach and Hebrew and co-director of Israel Guidance, who will be making aliyah.

Dov Adler, co-chair of the school’s capital campaign, gave a dvar Torah about the responsibility of giving. He announced a matching-gift challenge from an anonymous donor, which resulted in over $200,000 raised toward the capital campaign in just 24 hours following the dinner. To date, the campaign has raised $3.2 million of its $5 million goal.

The evening concluded with dessert and dancing with the Class of 2019. To make a contribution to Ma’ayanot’s scholarship fund as well as the capital campaign, please contact Sara Grinfeld, development associate, at [email protected].
