My Extended Family Resumes For the New School Year

(Courtesy of My Extended Family) My Extended Family, a program supporting children ages 6-13 from single-parent homes, is now open for registration for the 2022-2023 school year.

The program, run by Friends of Lubavitch of Bergen County, pairs “big brothers” and “big sisters” from our local high schools with each child. Each child feels special and unique as they develop a relationship with their “big sibling” in this program.

There are weekly club meetings where the children enjoy a delicious catered supper, work on homework and then spend time on activities, sports, games and more. Club nights are on Tuesdays. The girls meet at the Teaneck Chabad House, 513 Kenwood Place, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and the boys meet at Heichal HaTorah, 70 Sterling Place, from 6:40 to 8:05 p.m.

In addition to weekly club nights there are holiday programs and trips throughout the year.

The entire program is free of charge.

There will be an open house at the Teaneck Chabad House on Sunday, September 11 from 2 to 4 p.m., where parents and children will have an opportunity to meet the staff and explore the program. Rabbi Avi Rosalimsky and Devorah Burg are the respective boys’ and girls’ program directors, and Shua Schloss and Liana Kahn are the boys’ and girls’ program coordinators. Amy Birman, a licensed clinical social worker, is the clinician that oversees the program. She assists parents with various needs and helps them get whatever resources they require.
