Bergen Schools Unite in Song on Yom Yerushalayim

This year’s Inter School Choral Festival, Bergen County Sings ll, was held on Thursday, May 18. Last year’s event, which was held in Votee Park, was extremely successful, and while the organizers were hoping to go back to Votee, construction of the new bandshell is not yet completed, necessitating a change of venue. Thankfully, Rabbi Eli Ciner, Frisch head of school, was gracious enough to offer his facility for the event.

Five elementary schools brought their choirs to Frisch and performed to a warm capacity crowd of friends and family. Participating were Yeshivat Noam, directed by Adina Mermelstein; Moriah, directed by Jessica Levner; Yeshivat He’Atid, directed by Cantor Eric Freeman; Yavneh Academy, directed by Marsha Motzen; and Solomon Schechter of Bergen County, directed by Carey White. The audience was also treated to a performance by the Frisch Cougar Chorus, directed by Randi Wartelsky.

As a grand finale, all of the schools united on stage to sing “Yerushalayim Shel Zahav.” Each school was assigned verses, with the audience joining in on the chorus. It was certainly a fitting tribute to mark the unification of our beloved capital!
