(Courtesy of Ohr Yisroel) Ohr Yisroel is excited to welcome Rabbi Aharon Ciment to its administrative team as mashgiach ruchani. Rabbi Ciment has been the rabbi of Congregation Arzei Darom since 2004 and currently serves as a rebbe/mashgiach in the Stone Beit Midrash (SBMP) Program at Yeshiva University. In his new role he will present a daily shiur, meet privately with the talmidim and participate in a wide range of informal programs together with the yeshiva.
With the yeshiva’s enrollment approaching 50 talmidim, including the beis midrash program, Rabbi Friedman saw the need to add to their already stellar team of mechanchim. Finding a rabbinic leader who fits with the philosophy of the yeshiva, however, was extremely important to him.
In announcing the new hire, Rabbi Friedman commented, “We are so excited to have Rabbi Ciment not only coming to teach but to lead. There are few leaders like Rabbi Ciment. His unconditional love for all talmidim and Jews is amazing, his excitement, love and appreciation for what Ohr Yisroel is doing is contagious and his belief in our motto ‘students cannot fail; only we can’ are some of the many reasons why we are certain that he is the perfect rav to serve as our mashgiach ruchani. We know how lucky and excited our talmidim and families are to have Rabbi Ciment as part of our leadership team and the greater Ohr Yisroel family.”
Rabbi Ciment has worked tirelessly on behalf of his talmidim to ensure they are cared for, supported and guided toward a life-long commitment to avodat Hashem. In welcoming Rabbi Ciment to the team, Rabbi Yablok observed how he has “personally witnessed Rabbi Ciment’s profound commitment to the success of each and every talmid. We are fortunate to bring that passion, inspiration and commitment to our talmidim and we are enthusiastic about the opportunity to work closely with Rabbi Ciment on their behalf in the Ohr Yisroel way.” Rabbi Friedman added that “Rabbi Ciment is one of the few mechanchim who has the ability to teach an advanced Gemara shiur as well as a beginners’ Chumash or hashkafa shiur. He truly demonstrates the unique ability to connect with the entire student body.”
With Rabbi Ciment, Ohr Yisroel further diversifies their shiur offerings and adds an established local rabbinic leader. In addition, given that some graduates will be attending Yeshiva University in the future, the yeshiva is excited to establish a relationship with Rabbi Ciment long before they arrive at YU. Moving into just its second year, Ohr Yisroel has created a unique model by combining Israel yeshiva-style Judaic studies with blended online learning in the general studies program. The yeshiva centers its mission around nourishing happiness and self reflection as the key to life-long avodat Hashem.
