Get ready for another night of L.O.L., brought to you by Completely Kosher Productions (CKP), on February 8, 2024 at RAIN Event Space in Teaneck. But this time around, the search is on for the next big talent to be featured at the event. Could it be you?
L.O.L., which stands for law, orthopedics and laughter, is the brainchild of The Center For Musculoskeletal Disorders (CMD) of Englewood, which enlisted the help of a law firm and orthopedic practice through generous sponsorships, to raise much needed-funds for tzedakah efforts in Israel. Organizing fun, wholesome entertainment for the whole family, it provides a unique opportunity to help out on a completely different level.
Creative Kosher Productions offers clean, witty, high-quality comedy and talent that serves a higher purpose, which involves raising charity and bringing Jewish people, and the world at large, closer together.
On December 21, 2023, CKP and L.O.L. held its inaugural event featuring three comedians whose acts had everyone smiling and wanting more. Dovie Neuberger, Jonathan Lewin (who majored in speech and drama under famed Yeshiva University department head Anthony Beukas) and veteran comic Mike Vecchione of “The Tonight Show” were the three comedians to perform.
Lewin said: “It was a great evening. Kids were there. It was incredible, completely clean, and family-friendly.” RAIN Event Space had been completely transformed into a comedy club atmosphere, and with the help of the Rothenberg Law Group and the Center for Musculoskeletal Disorders of Englewood, a significant amount of tzedakah was raised for Just One Chesed.
Expect the next L.O.L. event to be just as incredible and maybe a little different. “This time, as opposed to doing an evening with only known talent, we decided to do something new, by holding a talent and comedy night search,” Lewin explained. Completely Kosher Productions is looking for a few funny and talented men to take part in next month’s L.O.L. event. He said the idea is to create an environment where people will get an opportunity to show off their talent, which others may not know about, while helping to raise money. “People want to be able to help out. They can always write a check or volunteer their time but many people also want to use their creative talents on behalf of the klal, and this is a great way for them to do that.”
Renowned Israeli singing sensation Ilan Tal has also been invited to come sing and entertain the audience. “I thought it would be chizuk to have someone from Eretz Yisroel there,” Lewin, who will be returning with his comedy performance, added. Dr. Daniel Popowitz of CMD is also bringing his “foot and ankle” bit to the event.
Proceeds from the event will go to Geerz, a unique therapeutic mountain-biking program for children who are dealing with trauma from the October 7 attacks, along with kids who struggle with challenges including ADD/ADHD, social and behavioral problems, low self-esteem, anger management, family dysfunction and adolescent anxiety.
Chaim Wizman, director of development shared: “Geerz has already opened many new groups in response to urgent wartime requests from many communities and youth villages which have so many kids suffering from significant PTSD. In addition to the curriculum based Geerz programming, we have also operated special programs for kids displaced from both the South and North in order to provide them with a sense of normalcy. We have even built custom mobile bike parks to bring the program to the kids when riding on the trails has been impossible because of security concerns. On a clinical level, Geerz has also greatly enhanced the training of our staff to enable them to address the unique challenges Israeli kids are struggling with in these extraordinarily trying times. The results have thankfully been phenomenal and there are dozens of testimonials attesting to the powerful impact Geerz is having on hundreds of kids. Kids who were initially too terrified to leave their parents’ sight for a single moment in the immediate aftermath of the October 7 horrors, have gradually developed the confidence to go outside and even ride their bikes independently in their new and unfamiliar surroundings.
“Laughter is an eloquent symbol of our resilience,” he continued. “What more appropriate way to demonstrate our strength by coming together as a community and celebrating our nation’s resilience while facilitating healing for so many kids across Israel.”
RAIN, managed by funnyman Scott Gartenberg, is graciously co-sponsoring the event again, as is the audio production crew, headed by Zevi “Fleetwood” Savetsky of Triple S Studios.
