Comprehensive Behavior Supports Offers Support for Individuals With Autism

(Courtesy of Comprehensive Behavior Supports) Autism is a developmental disorder that is characterized by limited or the absence of language skills, poor social skills and the presence of stereotypical or repetitive movements or vocalizations. The disorder can be devastating and has long-term effects on the individual with the diagnosis. Despite many false claims, there is no cure for autism. The most effective treatment to reduce the impact of the diagnosis is the application of behavior analytic (ABA) practices and procedures. There is a body of scientific literature spanning more than 50 years that has established best practices and is being used throughout the country and across the world.

Comprehensive Behavior Supports (CBS) is a provider of individual and group services to children and adolescents with autism. CBS serves families throughout New York and New Jersey. Their offices are located in Brooklyn and in Paramus. In-home, 1:1 treatment is at the core of their work, but they also offer social skills group treatment at both offices on Sundays and on two afternoons each week. Social skills groups are structured to form small groups of children of similar age and needs to build relationships with one another and learn to communicate with one another. Children learn to engage in conversations, solve problems, take turns, play and work as part of a group. All of this is done in an atmosphere of fun.

CBS provides treatment for individuals and for groups is several languages: English, Spanish, Hebrew, Yiddish, Russian and others, depending on the needs of families.

Our staff of board-certified behavior analysts (licensed in New York) and trained paraprofessionals are the backbone of our services.

CBS begins their work with a careful assessment of the behavioral excesses and deficits presented by a child or adolescent and base a treatment plan on the outcome. Data is taken continuously and guide program adjustments to ensure that treatment is effective. Parent training is also included as an integral part of our services. Mothers and fathers are shown how to utilize specific procedures that the treatment team has found effective in supporting the child. Periodic progress reports are prepared to document the course of treatment. If you have any questions or would like more information, call the CBS intake office at 718-633-4411.
