Jerusalem—After the UN’s creation of a committee to investigate Israel’s actions during Operation Protective Edge, and allegations that Israel violated international law during the operation, the state comptroller Judge Yosef Shapira decided today (Wednesday) to open and investigation of the decision making on part of the military and political leadership in the government and the IDF.
The State Comptroller said that he would review the military and political decision-making processes during the operation in Gaza. Among other things, he will examine issues such as the provision of security to residents of the state, Home Front Command activities, security solutions for civilians, and services for civilians in conflict areas.
Shapira instructed that in addition to audits currently being conducted of the security regarding the tunnels, the office will expand the investigations to other areas such as the activity and preparation of the Home Front Command during the fighting, security solutions for civilians, and services for civilians in conflict areas.
The State Comptroller’s Office emphasized that recently, they received dozens of inquiries and complaints regarding the conduct during the various stages of Operation Protective Edge. “This is a complex inspection,” a ministry official said. Accordingly the comptroller instructed the division of audits, allowing a more comprehensive examination of the subject.
