On Tuesday, July 4, following the 8 a.m. minyan, Rabbi Jacob Steinmetz will offer a shiur entitled,“No Artscroll Necessary: Who Says We Have to Understand What We Learn?” A light breakfast will be served before the shiur.
Rabbi Jacob Steinmetz is from West Hempstead, New York. After spending two years studying at Yeshivat Shaalvim, Rabbi Steinmetz attended Yeshiva University, from which he graduated with a degree in economics. Rabbi Steinmetz has studied under Rabbi Rosensweig and Rabbi Schachter, and just completed his first year in the Wexner Kollel Elyon, which is sponsoring the program.
The Bella and Harry Wexner Kollel Elyon is a comprehensive program for uniquely gifted students at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, affiliated with Yeshiva University. Students in the program benefit from a unique curriculum designed to educate an elite cadre of rabbinic leaders to meet the complex demands of today’s Jewish community. The program has been endowed, in perpetuity, by a grant from the Charitable Fund established by Bella C. and Harry L. Wexner, z”l.
On Shabbat, July 8, following the 8:05 p.m. Mincha, Rabbi Sam Frankel will present a lecture, “Mindfulness and Judaism, Part 2.”
Rabbi Sam Frankel, LCSW, serves as a middle school rabbi at Yavneh Academy in Paramus and also has a private practice specializing in individual/family therapy. Previously, he served in many capacities at Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services, including as director of children/adolescent residential services, director of Camp Aishel, director of foster care and adoptions, director of the independent living program, and assistant clinical director.
He received a master’s degree in social work from the New York University School of Social Work and has done post-master’s degree work at the Hunter College School of Social Work. He also has certification in family therapy. He received his ordination from Kollel Agudath Achim.
