On Sunday, December 13, Congregation Beth El hosted its annual public menorah lighting. Joining Rabbi Lerman, spiritual leader of the synagogue, was Mayor Joseph DeSalvo of Rutherford, as well as Assemblyman Gary Schaer.
The ceremony included moments to honor and thank the police departments of southern Bergen County for their service, including the departments of Rutherford, East Rutherford, Carlstadt, Lyndhurst, Moonachie and Wood-Ridge.
The synagogue received a personal letter from Governor Chris Christie in honor of the event.
The evening was filled with Chanukah fun—a fire juggler to entertain the guests, lively music, fun for the children, as well as doughnuts, latkes and delicious soups.
Congregation Beth El is located at 185 Montross Avenue in Rutherford.
