For half a century, this cherished event has been a cornerstone of the community, bringing together members to honor the values of Torah, chesed and unity that define CIS. From its founding in 1882 in Newark, New Jersey, to the thriving and dynamic congregation it is today, CIS continues to foster strong connections and spiritual growth among its members.

This milestone event not only celebrates CIS’s rich history but also recognizes the extraordinary contributions of Rabbi Chaim and Lea Marcus, whose leadership and dedication to CIS for nearly 25 years have profoundly transformed the community. Since their arrival in Springfield, they have been the heart and soul of CIS, inspiring generations with their warmth, wisdom and unshakable devotion to Torah, mitzvot and personal growth. Rav Chaim’s engaging shiurim, inspiring drashas, uplifting tefillos and tireless commitment to his congregants have made him a beloved leader, while Lea’s kindness and deep sense of community have strengthened countless families through her chesed initiatives and educational programs. Together, through their authentic and magnetic personalities, they have cultivated a welcoming environment, created a Torah-centric community and developed meaningful, enduring personal relationships with members of all ages.

Their impact extends far beyond the walls of CIS, touching the lives of countless individuals across the broader Jewish world. Through their dynamic leadership, inspirational teachings and extensive outreach, they have influenced students, families and communities nationwide and beyond.
In addition to honoring Rabbi Chaim and Lea Marcus, this year’s dinner will celebrate several distinguished honorees whose contributions have significantly impacted the community. Dr. Len Bielory will be recognized with the inaugural Keter Shem Tov Award for his unwavering dedication and long-standing service. Sarah Lachs will be honored as this year’s Aishet Chayil, celebrating her commitment to Torah values and communal involvement. Leora and Shmuel Babich will receive the Young Leadership Award for their inspiring efforts in engaging and strengthening the community. The Joseph Tammam Memorial Youth Community Service Scholarship Award will be presented to Racheli Marcus.

This milestone dinner not only celebrates the past five decades of dedication, but also ensures that the community continues to flourish for generations to come. On March 25, CIS will gather to honor both its history and the individuals shaping its future. In recognition of all that Rabbi Chaim and Lea Marcus, Dr. Len Bielory, Sarah Lachs, Leora and Shmuel Babich and Racheli Marcus have done—and continue to do—we invite you to take part in this milestone and contribute to CIS’s mission by making a donation in their honor today. Together, we can ensure that the values they uphold continue to inspire and uplift CIS and the broader Jewish community for many years to come.
