This past week, Republican leadership in the House voted to remove antisemite Ilan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee (“Voting Against an Antisemite Should Be an Easy Decision,” Feb. 2, 2023). The vote, as expected, stayed along party lines. However, this fact is unfortunate.

Josh Gottheimer has been a strong bipartisan voice in support of the Jewish community and Israel, yet he voted for the antisemitic, anti-Israel congresswoman to stay on her committee. Mr. Gottheimer, why did you vote against the state of Israel and the Jewish community? This becomes even more shameful because, in 2022, he voted along party lines to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee posts over antisemitic comments she had made. Could it be that Gottheimer is not the strong bipartisan voice he has always been made out to be and just votes along party lines? This is not a Republican or Democrat issue, this is a Jewish community issue, and Gottheimer once again failed to vote for his constituents.
