In your editorial “A Moment for Our Daf Yomi Warriors” (The Jewish Link, August 13, 2020) you recount earlier this year the beginning of the new Daf Yomi cycle, after the incredible Siyum Hashas in Citi Field. Unfortunately, it was quickly followed by the disastrous coronavirus outbreak, lockdowns, and interruptions in study, but then a resumption of study enabled by the marvels of technology and inspired rabbaim.

Lockdowns and major dislocations to personal, family, communal and shul routines are still the order of the day. It may therefore be a good time for your readers to take this opportunity to learn more than one daf a day, as time permits. In this year’s March 5 and March 26 issues of the JLNJ, there were letters written describing an accelerated daf learning cycle to complete Shas in less than the normal 7.5 years. For example, learning three daf a day would result in completing the cycle in 2.5 years. I am engaged in this pursuit by learning a daf any time I get a chance during the day or night (I call it Chap-A-Daf), utilizing the outstanding Daf Hachaim site with Maggid Shiur Rabbi Shlomie Schwartzberg.

The current coronavirus lockdowns, quarantines and forced layoffs have caused many others to spend much more time at home than usual, which gives them a good chance to learn more each day, and is certainly a very rewarding way to spend this time.
