Our area spring ice hockey teams are both skating into their respective playoffs. The Hurricanes finished their regular season with a 6-0 victory over West Orange. Joshua Lando opened the scoring with his first of two goals, with 3:12 left in the first period, and the Hurricanes never looked back. Baruch Karpov, Colin Mauer and Eli Schiff each had a goal and an assist. Drew Rabiniowitz also scored while Avraham Gellman, Eli Blumenfeld and Aaron Teitelbaum had assists in the win. The Hurricanes finished with an impressive 7-3 record in the tough Metro Division heading into their first playoff game this coming Sunday.
Cougar Nation, though, were not able to finish their schedule as their last game was postponed due to bad ice condition caused by a Zamboni malfunction. Last week they qualified for the playoffs after a huge 8-5 win over Pequannock thanks to a five-goal performance from Jake Fromen; big points from Aryeh Bloom, Jack Margolius and David Schenker; and a big timely goal scored by Dani Loren as Pequannock threatened to tie the game with two minutes left. They will play their first playoff game on Sunday as well.
