County Executive Marks Holocaust Memorial Day With Bris Avrohom

Bergen County Executive James Tedesco III and the Board of Chosen Freeholders proclaimed Holocaust Memorial Day. Every year, the County Executive’s office and Board of Freeholders join Bris Avrohom in commemorating the date and present Bris Avrohom with a proclamation.

Over 100 people attended this year, highlighting the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camps. Michael Berkowitz, Board Member, North American Council of Museum of Polish Jews and Past Chairman, Interfaith Forum of Religious Art & Architecture, the keynote speaker, born in Siberia, shared the harrowing experiences of his family’s flight from the Nazis.

Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky, executive director of Bris Avrohom, was the master of ceremonies. County Executive Tedesco in his speech impressed upon the audience the importance of remembering the Holocaust and passing these memories on to the next generation. A Holocaust Proclamation was presented to Bris Avrohom by Dr. Joan Voss, Chairwoman of the Board of Chosen Freeholders on their behalf; Sheriff Michael Saudino presented another Proclamation. Rabbi/Cantor Berel Zaltzman, Senior Rabbi, Bris Avrohom of Fair Lawn, recited the memorial service.
