On November 1, the Tiger Den of Pack 613, the only Shomer Shabbat Cub Scout Pack in Bergen County, operating out of Congregation Ahavat Achim in Fair Lawn, took part in the Federation of Northern New Jersey’s Mitzvah Day. At Historic New Bridge Landing they saw an American Flag with only 13 stars, learned about a few of the historic buildings there and met some of the wonderful people who volunteer to maintain the site. The Tiger Scouts, with shovels in hand, planted over 100 spring flowering bulbs outside the Steuben House, including tulips and daffodils. Not only did they have a great time, but this helped the Scouts earn their “Backyard Jungle” Adventure Belt Loop, and to fulfill the requirement to do community service as part of their “Team Tiger” Adventure. Their involvement in Mitzvah Day helped to reinforce the Scout Law, which states that a Scout is helpful. They look forward to returning to Historic New Bridge Landing in the spring to see the flowers that they planted bloom.
