On Sunday October 18, with the temperatures hovering at around 40 degrees, the Tiger Den of Pack 613 of boys in first grade, along with their adult partners, hiked the red-green loop of the Teaneck Creek Conservancy. There they searched for, and found, animal tracks, observed a variety of birds and berry-producing bushes and discussed the Cub Scout’s Outdoor Code and “Leave No Trace Principles For Kids.” They were careful to leave the natural beauty of conservancy untouched for others to enjoy. Each Tiger brought and carried the “Cub Scout Six Essentials” a scout needs to have when they go for a hike: water, trail food, sun protection, a first aid kit, a whistle and a flashlight, and discussed what other things someone might need on a hike.
