David Baumser of OMO Construction Aims to Please

Building your “dream home” from scratch or adding on to your existing home can be stressful, or even traumatic. For close to 30 years, David Baumser, owner of On My Own (OMO) Construction, has prided himself on “getting it right” for his customers. As he shared, the secret to his success is utilizing the skills of experts in the field. Baumser subcontracts professionals to work on the many areas of the home involved in the building or remodeling, thus ensuring the highest-quality result.

Another key component in his successful operation is the timing of the construction. For example, by ordering materials early in the process, OMO can shorten the average home addition of approximately 1,500 feet from the 11 months needed by other companies to 3 ½ to 4 months. This shortened timeline is a blessing to Jewish families, many of whom relocate during construction.

Baumser said that even during COVID he was able to receive his materials in a timely fashion by calling upon his sterling reputation with supply houses. He was able to continue work on several projects while adhering to the COVID guidelines of distancing. Thus he had electricians on one side of the construction and plumbers in another area.

In the early years of OMO, when Baumser was involved hands-on in the actual construction, he was particularly interested in the remodeling of kitchens. Servicing a large Orthodox clientele in Northern New Jersey, including the towns of Fair Lawn, Passaic, Teaneck, Tenafly and Highland Park, the business owner was always cognizant of the crucial importance of a functioning kitchen, and so he scheduled his work around accessibility on Shabbat and Yomim Tovim. He always arranged for a working stove and functioning sink to be available during construction.

Currently, 80% of OMO Construction’s projects are renovations and additions to private homes. Another 10-15% deal with commercial renovations, all within New Jersey.

In terms of pricing, Baumser said that considering his use of top professionals and high-quality materials, he feels that his prices are fair and competitive. On occasion, he even comes in under budget. While not the lowest-priced, he is certainly not the highest, he shared.

Complete home constructions are the jobs of which Baumser is most proud. When he drives through the local towns and sees one of his structures, he is delighted that he has enhanced the quality of life for so many in the community.
