(Courtesy of Dor L’Dor) The Dor L’Dor group at Congregation Ahavath Torah is pleased to present guest speaker Dennis Waldman on Wednesday, April 14, at 1:00 p.m. He will discuss “Sholom Aleichem: A Story of Humor and Music in Challenging Times”—the life and work of Sholom Aleichem, exploring how humor and music can give us a more positive perspective of life, especially during these difficult times.
Sholom Aleichem, one of the founding fathers of modern Yiddish literature, experienced trauma and challenges living in czarist Russia in the late 19th century. To deal with difficult times, he chose to utilize humor in his writing, which inspired several Jewish musical works including Fiddler on the Roof.
Waldman, a long-standing board member of Zamir Choral Foundation, has been cantor of Temple Beth El of Rockaway Park since 1980 and is a lecturer on Jewish music.
