The Dor L’Dor group at Congregation Ahavath Torah is excited to present a virtual Zoom tour of the exhibit “Edith Halpert and the Rise of American Art” from the Jewish Museum on Tuesday, January 5, at 11:30 a.m. The tour will be led by Nelly Benedek, deputy director of education and programs at the Jewish Museum.
Edith Halpert (1900-1970) was a pioneer in the world of American modern art and folk art. Despite the fact that she was a woman, an immigrant and a Jew, she successfully promoted avant-garde artists such as Georgia O’Keefe and Ben Shahn. From 1930 to 1950 she was New York’s most powerful dealer of American art, inspiring generations of Americans to value this genre. The New York Times heralded this show as “a crowded, enthralling exhibit … with a fascinating backstory that is rarely told on this scale.”
No charge for this event, however the number of participants is limited. For further information and the zoom link, please send an email to [email protected].
