The Dor L’Dor group at Congregation Ahavath Torah, Englewood, is excited to present a virtual Zoom tour of the exhibit “Afterlives: Recovering the Lost Stories of Looted Art,” featured several months ago at the Jewish Museum in New York on Thursday, July 7 at 2 p.m.
The tour will be led by one of the educators at the Jewish Museum.
During World War II, untold numbers of artworks and cultural property were stolen by Nazi forces, and after the war, an estimated 1 million artworks and 2.5 million books were recovered. Many more were destroyed. “Afterlives: Recovering the Lost Stories of Looted Art,” formerly on view at the Jewish Museum, chronicles the stories of the objects looted from Jewish families during the war, including works by such renowned artists as Marc Chagall, Paul Cézanne, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Camille Pissarro. The exhibition explores how surviving artworks and other precious objects moved through time, bearing witness to profound historical events while also acting as enduring carriers of individual expression, knowledge, and creativity.
Limited number of viewers—first come first served. Please visit www.ahavathtorah.org/dorldor for the Zoom link info and dial-in info on the day of the event. There is no charge for this event. Info: 201-921-0630.
