The Dor L’Dor group at Cong. Ahavath Torah, 240 Broad Ave., Englewood, is pleased to present a Three Weeks “Lunch and Learn” program on Monday, July 29, at noon. Rabbi Daniel Goldberg, associate rabbi at Cong. Ahavath Torah, will speak about the Three Weeks and Tisha B’Av.
A member of Ahavath Torah’s rabbinic team since 2017, Goldberg is a graduate of Yeshiva College, magna cum laude. He received his rabbinic ordination from RIETS and holds an M.A. in Bible from YU’s Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies and has completed his coursework towards a Ph.D. in Bible, focusing on medieval biblical interpretation. He has participated in graduate fellowships from the Wexner Foundation, AIPAC, UJA-Federation and the Zahava and Moshael Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought. He is also the recipient of the RIETS Emerging Leadership Award.
Following the lecture, the film “Blessed is the Match: The Story of Hannah Senesh” will be shown.
Narrated by Academy Award nominee Joan Allen, “Blessed is the Match” is a truly moving memorial that brings to life the Holocaust heroine Hannah Senesh through interviews with Holocaust historians, eyewitness accounts from those on the rescue operation as well as in the prison, rare family photographs and the writings of Senesh and her mother. The film recreates Senesh’s perilous and heartbreaking mission, reconstructs her defiant months in the Gestapo prison and — through Hannah’s diary entries and poetry — looks back on the life of a talented and complex girl who came of age in a world descending into madness. (Run time 1 hour, 26 minutes)
The cost for the lecture, movie and delicious buffet lunch is $20 with reservation by July 25; walk-ins, $25.
