Dr. Gerald Kirschenbaum For Teaneck BOE

After living in Teaneck for over seven years, I would like to share my extensive educational experiences by becoming a member of the Teaneck Board of Education. I was educated in public schools and then spent more than 49 years in both public (30 years) and private (19-plus years) education.

I began my career as a teacher/coordinator in New York City and became an assistant principal in New Jersey at 28. I then became a building principal in Long Beach and New Rochelle (15 years). I was promoted to assistant superintendent of schools in New Rochelle where I was in charge of seven schools, as well as a
co-grant writer for the district. We successfully obtained a Magnet Grant ($3.2 million), as well as other cultural arts and staff development initiatives. After 30 years in public education, I became the headmaster of Moriah School in Englewood and then the headmaster of the Bi-Cultural Day School in Stamford. Both are Pre-K-8 schools. I then became the principal of DRS Yeshiva High School (9-12) in Woodmere.

Coupled with these assignments, I taught graduate school courses at Azrieli Graduate School. I then became an educational consultant and a child advocate, helping parents navigate the special education bureaucracy. I was also president of a Yeshiva Board of Education for 10 years where I closely worked with the school’s administration to ensure the implementation of current pedagogic techniques.

I have much to share with the Teaneck Board of Education, having worked in similar diverse public school districts throughout my career. I have the most educational experience of any candidate and I feel that I can help to ensure “educational excellence” for all Teaneck students.

I look forward to your support.

Dr. Gerald B. Kirshenbaum
