Dr. Julie Goldstein to Speak at Rinat Yisrael

On Shabbat, September 24 at 5:15 p.m., Cong. Rinat Yisrael Adult Education will present Dr. Julie Goldstein, Midrasha Amudim, speaking on “Women’s Leadership in the Orthodox Community: The Medieval Model.”

The quest for women’s leadership would appear to be a modern phenomenon but history shows otherwise. We will encounter medieval Jewish women who appear to have seamlessly stepped into positions of influence in Jewish society. Who were these women? What was the secret of their success? What does it mean for us today?

Dr. Julie Goldstein has taught at NYU, Ma’ayanot High School and UCLA, and is a prolific lecturer. Dr. Goldstein received a masters in Jewish philosophy as well as a joint doctorate in medieval history and Judaic Studies at NYU. She has been a research fellow at The Hebrew University and at The Global Research Institute of Tel Aviv University. Dr. Goldstein has received a number of awards, including fellowships from Cardozo’s Center for Jewish Law and Civilization and The Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture.
