What better way to celebrate the beauty of Chanukah than with music?! This Monday, early childhood and kindergarten classes were treated to a delightful presentation of Drum Tales, an engaging, participatory program, comprised of percussion and storytelling. Each child was given their own djembe drum to explore—tapping, beating, patting, thundering and even “scratching” along with the storyteller, as he recounted the saga of Matityahu and the Maccabees, the menorah and the miracles. This experiential program elicited the children’s excitement, encouraged their curiosity and focused attention, reinforced their understanding of the Chanukah story, and brought out their inner sense of rhythm and their natural affinity for all things musical.
