On the initiative of Edison Township Council Member Asaf Shmuel, the security chairs of shuls and day schools in the greater Edison area met on Tuesday night, May 28 with Edison Mayor Sam Joshi, Chief of Police Thomas Bryan, and Deputy Chief of Police Robert Dudash at the Edison Public Safety Headquarters. The meeting was led by Councilman Shmuel and Congregation Ohr Torah’s Security Chair Dr. Marc Hanfling and included security chairs and security team members from Congregation Agudath Israel, Congregation Ahavas Achim, Congregation Ateres Shlomo, Congregation Ahavas Yisrael, Congregation Klal Chassidim, Congregation Etz Ahaim, Congregation Ohr Torah, and Yeshiva Shaarei Tzion.

Mayor Joshi told the assembled: “We will do what we need to do to keep your community safe,” and Police Chief Bryan informed everyone that the best approach to get immediate police attention to an alarming or suspicious situation is to call 911 without delay.

Speaking after the meeting, Hanfling stated: “The group felt confident that the mayor and police are fully committed to the security and safety of our community and the town.” Councilman Shmuel said: “Edison has always been and continues to be, mostly due to the vigilance of our mayor and the police department, a safe and peaceful community.”
