Looking Back on 400 Issues, and Looking Forward

It seems fitting that we are publishing our 400th issue on Parshat Bereshit, because it feels that just as we achieve one milestone—that of reaching the heights of the Yomim Noraim with Simchat Torah—that it is time to begin again. On to the next 400 issues, as our colleague Jill Kirsch writes on page 15.

But as we begin again, it’s nice to look back on what we have created. Four hundred issues is a big round number, and it seems to represent an exciting element of staying power to us; it means we have been here a long time and will be here for a long time to come. In actuality, it brings us great joy to know that many of our paper’s biggest fans were not even born when the paper published its first issue eight years ago. When we meet our smallest readers at Yom Tov meals or at the park, we are thrilled when we realize The Jewish Link has always been present as a constant in their lives. We see our youngest readers, the supporters of and contributors to our Kids’ Link and the art contest pages, as the voices of the future generation, and we are proud to give them their own space in what has become a paper for our entire community.

We are also greatly honored by the weekly presence of our Torah contributors, including those writers who balance a great deal of communal work to get their articles in on time for proofreading each week. We are thankful to the many staff writers who report from within our vibrant Jewish Link communities, without whom we literally could not go to print each week. Our advertisers also, through our paper, have become elevated as honored communal partners, helping to support, meet the needs of and celebrate our neighbors in myriad ways.

We are proud, as always, to be a paper of, from and for our community, and we hope to continue to be so for as long as you will have us. Thank you for reading our 400th issue, and all the ones that came before as well. Shana Tova!
