Eighth Grade Applicants Enjoy Fantastic ‘Naaleh Experience’

On Thursday, December 27, Naaleh High School for Girls opened its doors to over 95 eighth grade applicants—hailing from 13 elementary schools—for the second annual Naaleh Experience Day. The goal of the day was for the girls to meet the teachers, interact with different girls and get a taste of what high school will be like. The day began with “Cake Wars,” where each team of girls decorated delicious sheet cakes with a different Yom Tov theme. The activity generated creativity, achdut and a wonderful momentum for the rest of the day.

Next, eighth graders rotated through a sampling of Naaleh classes. In biology, they learned about DNA sequencing and how it can be applicable as evidence in a murder trial. In a tefillah workshop, the girls learned through mizmor l’toda, focusing on the connection between gratitude and simcha. They studied probability in math, using pennies, Mike and Ikes and dreidels as examples. They learned about the parsha from a positive psychology perspective, gaining new insight into Moshe’s mission and its relevance to their personal journeys of self-actualization. In global history, they traveled back to ancient Egypt to engage with the mysterious world of hieroglyphics. In Ivrit, they studied an Israeli song, paying attention to rhyme scheme, word choice and grammar.

After their classes, they were treated to a delicious lunch together with the ninth graders, who were excited to answer questions and give them an insider’s view of Naaleh. Both fun filled and informative, the classes and programming reflected Naaleh’s robust academic program and vibrant student life, providing an authentic taste of the Naaleh experience.
