It was during high school that Dr. Elizabeth (or as some know her, Elisheva) Kroll-Taubenfeld decided to become a clinical psychologist. Growing up, she watched her father, Dr. Evan Kroll, have a meaningful impact on people’s lives, and knew she wanted to follow in his footsteps and one day join his practice, EK Therapy and Testing. “I always knew I wanted to do this,” she said. “Seeing my dad as a therapist has always been an inspiration for me and I also deeply wanted to help people successfully navigate their life challenges.” While still an undergrad at Landers College for Women she was accepted into a PhD program at Hofstra (just like her father), and began her journey of counseling people to lead their best lives.
After years of training and working in different types of environments, Kroll-Taubenfeld has now joined EK Therapy and Testing, specializing in treating women and teenage girls.
Trained as a behavioral therapist while integrating a relational lens, she treats patients in both Teaneck and Passaic and can also see patients over Zoom. She treats patients with anxiety and mood-related disorders and is well-versed in working with people who need help with their relationships.
“We pride ourselves on giving our patients all the attention they need,” Kroll-Taubenfeld said. “We place a lot of focus on collaborating with parents, including psychiatrists or other healthcare providers, whether a patient is a minor or a legal adult who prefers to have their family involved.”

Before joining EK Therapy and Testing, Kroll-Taubnefeld spent a year training at the Center for Anxiety, as well as New York Presbyterian’s Partial and In-Patient Eating Disorder Unit and Stern College for Women. She is a practitioner of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and exposure with response prevention (ERP) therapy. Kroll-Taubenfeld also does exposure therapy for patients who require trauma and phobia treatment.
People are often unsure of when to get professional help for emotional struggles. Kroll-Taubenfeld explains that when certain behaviors start to affect a person’s functioning, which can include avoidance and communication struggles within a relationship, the time is ripe to seek counseling. When searching for a therapist, she stresses that the patient should feel it is the right fit, and one that would allow a feeling of trust to lead to the development of an effective therapist-patient relationship. At EK Therapy and Testing, Kroll-Taubenfeld said, “we take that very seriously. We look at the whole structure of a person and examine how we can best work with our patients to give them the extra attention that they need and deserve.”
Accepting patients typically starting at 10 years old, Kroll-Taubenfeld regularly counsels teenage girls as they navigate issues with school, relationships, and the anxieties and stressors that accompany female adolescence. She is also trained in working with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), as well as reproductive mental health, where she collaborates with reproductive psychiatrists for her patients when necessary.
EK Therapy and Testing also offers psychological evaluations for ADHD, learning disorders, anxiety, depression, and much more. Dr. Evan Kroll has been doing evaluations for over 25 years, and will now be doing testing and evaluations together with Kroll-Taubenfeld.
Characterizing EK Therapy and Testing as welcoming and collaborative, Kroll-Taubenfeld added: “My father likes to describe it as a boutique practice. We provide a warm, friendly and inviting environment, because that is the way we approach all of our patients.
“We make ourselves available and want to be as much a part of their lives as they want us to be.”
