Elie Katz Enlists Volunteers to ‘Shovel for Seniors’

Teaneck is blessed with a wonderful group of senior citizens, many of whom continue to be active in the community and contribute to the overall vibrancy of the town. However, some of these elderly neighbors need help, particularly during the winter months when the inability to remove snow and ice often traps them inside their homes.

Elie Y. Katz has announced a new program to address this growing concern. Katz’s new initiative, called “Shovel for Seniors,” seeks help from town volunteers, including students from Teaneck High School and other private and public schools who are interested in acquiring community service hours. In addition to addressing the needs of the town’s elderly population, the program gives residents a unique opportunity to reach out and connect with each other.

“Every year I receive several calls and inquiries from Teaneck seniors looking for help with snow removal,” Katz stated. “We have seniors who are shut in for days during bad storms and unfortunately some seniors are swindled by the price-gouging schemes of disreputable contractors. This program will resolve both of these issues.”

If you are a senior citizen in need of shoveling and you cannot afford the standard shoveling fees, Shovel for Seniors can help provide the support you need and deserve.

Known for initiatives geared toward helping all members of his community, Katz, a longtime Teaneck town council member and past mayor, personally answers phone calls and e-mails requesting assistance. One resident, who contacted Elie Katz regarding her difficulty in accessing snow removal help after a storm, was surprised to see Katz himself shoveling out her walkway.
