Elmora’s Emeralds Win Rookie Division Championship

The Emeralds won a nail-biter of a game last night against the Storm to win the Rookie Division championship of the Elmora Youth League in Elizabeth. The final score was 6-5.

In the first inning, both teams scored three runs through great offense on both sides. In the second, both teams were held to no runs with some great defense. Jacob Krause had an amazing jumping grab at first base to catch the line drive.

The third and fourth, Zev Rosen and Krause pitched two great innings. Rosen had two strikeouts and gave up one run making it 4-3 Storm at the end of the third and Krause struck out the side to keep the game close.

The fifth inning saw the Emeralds keeping the Storm at bay, allowing no runs. They started off with a shot to the outfield for a double by Sruli Milstein. Shaya Elstein snagged a single to advance the runner to third. Rafi Wolk hit the ball and got an RBI to tie up the game but got out at first. Soshi Wolk had a big hit to get a double to set up second and third for Big D (David Averbook). Averbook hit a beautiful shot up the middle to score two runs and end the inning (run limit) giving the Emeralds a 6-4 lead.

In the sixth inning, the Emeralds started off the top of the inning getting a quick out through a great catch by Rosen at shortstop. The Storm then got three hits and scored one run making it 6-5. The last two batters struck out ending the game with a final score of 6-5.
