(Courtesy of Englewood Health) Englewood Health has expanded its robotic surgery program with the acquisition of a third da Vinci Surgical System—the robotic platform from Intuitive Surgical.
The da Vinci robot is the most advanced platform for minimally invasive surgery available today. This technology acts as a natural extension of a surgeon’s eyes and hands, while offering enhanced dexterity and visualization of patients’ anatomy.
The da Vinci system’s robotic and computer assistance, as well as its highly specialized instrumentation, work together to enable extreme precision during surgery, limiting blood loss and sparing healthy tissue.
“The da Vinci technology allows us to perform more precise and minimally invasive surgeries,” says James McGinty, MD, chief of surgery and surgical services at Englewood Health. “This translates into better outcomes, shorter hospital stays, less postoperative pain, and quicker recoveries for our patients.”
At Englewood Health, this fourth generation da Vinci technology (the Xi model) will accommodate an increasing volume of robotic cases, as well as a growing number of robot-certified surgeons across colon and rectal, gynecologic, bariatric, urologic, and thoracic surgery. The health system’s robotic volume has increased over 200% since 2017, when Englewood Health had just one da Vinci surgical system.
The health system’s early adoption and expansion of robotics has been recognized by Intuitive Surgical, which designated Englewood Health as one of two gynecologic and gynecologic oncology case observation sites on the east coast.
“Surgeons from around the U.S. come to observe our program, watch us operate with the robot, and learn how we efficiently arrange our patient workflow,” says Nimesh Nagarsheth, MD, medical director of gynecologic oncology and robotic surgery at Englewood Health. “This is just one of the many reasons that Englewood Health continues to be a national leader in the field of robotics.”
