(Courtesy of Englewood Town Council) At Tuesday’s council meeting, the Englewood City Council passed a resolution condemning the Hamas terrorist attacks and stating support of the State of Israel. The resolution was passed to a full audience that included Rabbi Goldberg from Congregation Ahavath Torah and residents from throughout the city, and it was hailed in a standing ovation. Englewood was the first city to pass such a resolution in the State of New Jersey, and it did so unanimously. This resolution is now being used as a model for other towns throughout the state.
The Council sent out the following email to residents:
“We, the entire Englewood Council, Mayor and the community, are anguished by the terrorist attacks in Israel over Shabbat and the holiday of Sukkot and stand in support of Israel. Every person in the Jewish Community in Englewood is directly impacted by the events in Israel. The Englewood Jewish community has been working non-stop, along with other neighboring towns in Bergen County, raising money, collecting and sending essential items to Israel for the soldiers and Israeli citizens. I am inspired by the spirit and resolve of the Englewood community”, said Englewood 2nd Ward Councilwoman Dr. Lisa Wisotsky.
First Ward Councilman Ken Rosenzweig said, “Even though Englewood is a small city, our action tonight shows we are unified in condemning the horror that is occurring on the other side of the world.”
