Englewood Raiders vs. Englewood Warriors

On Sunday night, the Englewood Raiders squared off against the Englewood Warriors. Although the game was a scrimmage, both teams consisted of high school baseball players trying to improve for the spring season. From the start, both teams were ready for a hard-fought game.

Both teams started off a little shaky. In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Raiders promptly loaded the bases and scored a run on a hit-by-pitch and then another run on a walk. Nevertheless, the Warriors got out of the jam to avoid further damage. The Warriors then cut the lead to 2-1 in the second inning on a defensive miscue by the Raiders. In the following inning, the Raiders extended their lead to 4-1 on a two-run double by Isaac Seelenfreund. However, in the top of the 6th inning, the Warriors fought back by scoring two runs to make it 4-3. The Warriors tacked on another run in the last inning to send the game into extra innings. As predicted, this was turning out to be a very close game.

The Raiders escaped the top of the 8th unscathed, in large part due to a terrific defensive play by Jonathan Rubin in centerfield. Jared Caplan led off the bottom half of the inning with a clutch, hard-hit double down the left field line. The winning run was now on second base with nobody out. Jonathan Rubin followed up the double with a walk-off RBI single to right-center field to win it for the Raiders.

The Raiders had great pitching performances by Jake Lebovitch, Isaac Seelenfreund, RJ Fischer, and Aaron Glenn. There were also great hitting performances on both sides. Most importantly, it was a fun and exciting game that both teams enjoyed playing.
