JEC PTA Launches Annual Fundraiser
With Pesach just around the corner, the Jewish Educational Center’s PTA is launching its annual Paper Goods and Aluminum Fundraiser! It’s a win-win as families can take advantage of discounted disposables and delivery for Pesach, a holiday when these items are used in abundance. Proceeds will benefit the JEC’s PTA activities. AABJ&D to Host R’ Larry Rothwachs for Basch Memorial Lecture
Congregation AABJ&D has established the Linda Basch Memorial Lecture Series, in memory of a member and friend who passed away suddenly at age 59. On Wednesday March 18, at 8:00PM, the shul will host guest speaker Rabbi Larry Rothwachs of Teaneck’s Congregation Beth Aaron. His topic will be “Outsourcing Chessed: Personal Initiative vs. Communal Representation.” The lecture will take place in the Beit Medrash. at Congregation AABJ&D in West Orange.
“Dinner & a Movie” at Union Y
The YM-YWHA of Union County, located at 501 Green Lane in Union, will host two Monday night “Dinner & A Movie” events on March 23rd and April 13th. The start time is 6:30 p.m. and the menu is a “pasta & salad” buffet. The film for March 23rd is The Monuments Men, starring George Clooney. The film for April 13th is 50 Children: The Rescue Mission of Mr. & Mrs. Krause, in honor of Yom Hashoah. The price is $10 ($7 for Y members). Summer Camp Season at Union Y
Plans and schedules for Summer 2015 at the Y are almost complete. The ten camp divisions will host over 100 trips to creative and exciting locations, with the older campers traveling up to three times a week. The camp itself boasts an indoor Olympic heated pool and a private outdoor pool, a double newly renovated gymnasium, basketball courts, sports fields, a gaga court, tetherball and volleyball areas and a state-of-the-art playground. With close to 500 children (ages 3-15) attending, activities include instructional and recreational swims, sports, music, dance, yoga and zumba, karate and krav maga, cooking, nature, and drama. The camp is state-licensed with a full time EMT on staff, as well as a behavioral specialist. The camp begins on Thursday, June 25th and continues for eight weeks until Tuesday, August 18th. There are four- or eight-week sessions. A daily hot lunch is included in the camp fee. There are early drop-off and late pick-up options along with contracted bus transportation from selected areas. Y Family membership is a requirement for all camp registrations. The Y is proud to participate in government assistance programs for lower income and parent-working families.
