Estee Ackerman, of West Hempstead, received the Michael Freedman Outstanding Jewish Female High School Athlete of the year from the Jewish Sports Heritage Association on Sunday, April 25, at its third annual ceremony. Usually held at Temple Israel in Lawrence, this year’s ceremony was held virtually and also honored journalist Mitch Albom, former NBA Commissioner David Stern, former Red Sox player Kevin Youkilis, New York Ranger Adam Fox and YU basketball player Gabe Leifer, among others. A week earlier, Ackerman won the New York State Women’s Championship in Table Tennis in Pleasantville, New York, without losing a single match. She attended Yeshiva University High School for Girls and is currently a sophomore at Stern College.
