Estee Ackerman, of West Hempstead, won the Women’s Hardbat Singles event at the 2018 U.S. Nationals Table Tennis Championships held July 2-7 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This is her third singles title. Ackerman defeated Hall of Famer Patty Martinez Wasserman by scores of 16-21, 21-12 and 21-14 to win the gold medal. Ackerman also picked up a bronze medal in the Junior Girls Doubles event teaming with Sabrina Zhu, of Atlanta, losing to eventual champions Rachel Sung and Rachel Yang, of California, 3-1 in games, which saw Ackerman and Zhu save seven match points in the fourth game. In the all-important Junior Girls Singles, she finished in ninth place out of 36 competitors. In the third highest rated event— and the largest— the Under 2200, which had 293 players, saw Ackerman, the #10 seed advance to the quarterfinals before being defeated by eventual finalist Ved Sheth, the #4 seed from California.
