Even When It’s Cold Outside, the TABC Varsity Storm Sizzles

The TABC Storm came into Tuesday night’s game against the SAR Sting after a long winter break; however, it seemed that nothing could slow them down as they opened up the game on a brilliant run. The all-around stellar team defense was led by Moshe Brum (’15) and Solo Shulman (’15) as the Storm held SAR to only 2 points in the first quarter. However, the Sting clawed their way back into the game, capitalizing on TABC miscues and foul trouble, pulling within 5 points at halftime, down 21-16.

The Storm was able to rally after halftime behind the gritty play of guards Alex Hirt (’14) and Azi Fine (’15) and took a 9 point lead after three quarters. TABC was able to pad its lead in the fourth quarter on the strength of Yehoshua Zirman’s (’14) offensive showcase, who punished the Sting to a tune of 22 points and 9 rebounds as well as a couple of treys from Dan Poleyeff (’15). Brum contributed 10 points for the Storm as well, including a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line in the decisive quarter to put the game away for good.

After the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read 46 – 32 in favor of the TABC Storm. The Storm head into their final game of the regular season against the Frisch Cougars with a 9-4 record, winning four of their last five games, and could potentially secure one of the top playoff seeds with a victory Monday night.

The Sting were led by Sammy Marcus and Zach Wohlberg, each with 8 points.
