Chocolate chip cookie bars are super-fast and super-easy to bake up quickly on Friday afternoon, and they are a perfect treat for Shabbat. I find everyone has room left in their tummy for a taste of this delicious treat. You might already have your favorite cookie recipe, but here’s our family’s favorite for you to try! If you are younger than 11-years-old, ask a parent or older sibling to help you make this!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) margarine, at room temperature (or softened in the microwave for 25 seconds, just don’t forget to use a microwave-safe bowl and remove the wrappers!): I like Earth Balance brand.
- ½ cup dark brown sugar
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 cups white whole wheat flour
- 1 cup chocolate chips or mini-chocolate chips
Procedure:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Hand mix (or using an electric mixer) to combine the softened margarine with the sugars, salt, vanilla and baking powder until all is smooth. Next, add the flour and mix only until the dough forms. Add the chocolate chips last and only mix for another few moments.
Spray a 9 by 13 inch pan with canola oil and dump all the cookie dough in. Flatten with clean hands.
Bake about 20-25 minutes or until the cookie bars brown slightly. Enjoy!
