Expressing Hakarat Hatov to Elie Y. Katz

I want to express my hakarat hatov to Elie Y. Katz, a true mentsch, who selflessly gives his all to our community. As a Teaneck resident I have been the beneficiary of his kindness and commitment. About five years ago, the Shabbat after we moved into our new house, we discovered that we will not be able to have peace and quiet in our backyard because the speakers in the Teaneck Sports-plex were blaring the game at an extremely loud pitch. At Mincha, everyone was complaining and I told them I would volunteer to call the town and express our concern. I decided to send an email to Katz to ask him who I should contact. Within minutes he put me in touch with the town manager and followed up with me to ensure that this issue was addressed. The problem was solved, and I was so impressed with Elie’s responsiveness and concern for the needs of a simple constituent.

Later, as a teacher at Yeshivat Noam, I had the opportunity of seeing how caring and giving Elie is. Often, my students are invited to my home for special events and activities. Many parents drop off their kids, say thank you and ask when is pick-up. Elie comes in and rolls up his sleeves and starts helping. I remember the first time this happened, Elie was on his way to a wedding, He noticed that I needed some help with cleaning and organizing around the Lag B’Omer bonfire. He took off his suit and got right to work. I couldn’t stop him! If Elie sees an opportunity to help someone he is there! As a Teaneck resident I can say that I am proud to have Elie representing me and I hope that we all come out to vote and express our appreciation for this exemplary human being!
