(Courtesy of Ezras Torah) Ezras Torah, the organization serving talmidei chachamim and their families, primarily in Israel, held a well-attended event this past Tuesday evening at the Fair Lawn home of Drs. Zvi and Bracha Loewy. Dr. Zvi Loewy made the introductory remarks and welcomed everyone to his home. The first guest speaker was Rabbi Avrohom Schnall, shlita, rav of Cong. Reyim Ahuvim of Monsey, who explained how Ezras Torah has been working and expanding its efforts over the years to help the Torah community in need. He also mentioned how over 100 years since its inception, Ezras Torah has always been above politics, supported by all segments of Jewry. He spoke about how all tzedakahs are holy and how Ezras Torah has been labeled by the gedolim as kodesh hakodashim. He concluded with an insightful drasha on the name of the organization Ezras Torah and explained that the words “ezras Torah” can be read and understood both as the “help” the Torah provides or in the reverse manner, that the Torah provides the “help.” Rabbi Schnall discussed Ezras Torah’s vast distribution in terms of grants and interest-free loans to the over 6,500 Torah scholars and their families they annually help.
The Loewys’ son, Rabbi Yosef Loewy of East Northport, Long Island, spoke after Rabbi Schnall and gave a dvar Torah on the parsha and concluded with a powerful story about the power of tzedakah and chesed he had heard from Rabbi Dovid Goldwasser.
