Each year, the Fair Lawn Jewish Center/Congregation B’nai Israel (FLJC/CBI) in Fair Lawn recognizes the role volunteers play in the day-to-day life of the synagogue. On Saturday morning, January 28, those volunteers will be recognized along with this year’s “Menschen of the Year,” Scott and Andrea Pass.

Fair Lawn residents Scott and Andrea Pass have played an active role in the FLJC/CBI community for over 20 years. Scott has served as President of the Men’s Progress Club as well as in a number of Board positions. He was honored as the “Man of the Year” by the Northern New Jersey Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs. He has served on the Executive Board of the FLJC/CBI and has chaired the Sefer Haftorah project, where congregants sponsored the purchase and scribing of a scroll containing all Haftorot, which netted over $100,000. He currently serves as the Fundraising, High Holiday Survey Committee and Men’s Progress Club’s Yellow Candle Project chairs. Andrea has served as a member of the Nursery School and Religious School as well as President of Sisterhood, Co-Chair of Programs & Events and Chair of the Membership committees. She currently serves as Fundraising and Sisterhood Scholarship Committee chair. She became an adult B’nai Mitzvah at the FLJC/CBI.
