Fair Lawn’s Ahavat Achim Runs Diaper Drive

In 2019, Andrew and Kiera Wigod, in “the thick of the diaper changing phase of parenthood,” sponsored an event that “charged” diapers as the admission price, yielding over 50 participants’ donations. Now they are doing it again this Sunday, March 1, in coordination with a magic show at Congregation Ahavat Achim in Fair Lawn.

Similar to the previous year, the second annual drive seeks to ensure that people can receive necessities that are otherwise too expensive for them. Those who attend the magic show and donate diapers simultaneously can keep their children busy on the weekend and exemplify the important values of chesed.

While changing a diaper is not magical, this event is an enchanting way to ensure that everyone in the Northern New Jersey community has access to what they need to take care of their children. All donations go to Jewish Family and Children’s Services of NNJ food pantry clients.

“If a parent can’t afford diapers, they can’t send their child to daycare, and then they can’t go to work,” said Kiera. “We’re trying to break the cycle of poverty.”

Magic Evan will perform on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.. To attend, please drop off sealed packages of size 1-6 diapers, diaper cream and baby wipes between 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at Ahavat Achim. The magic show and drop off time are concurrent. Donations can also be arranged outside of the designated hours. Please email [email protected] for more information.
